6. Thesis Diary
This week, I continued to work on my visual system, paying close attention to the name of my project and possible logo. For the past two weeks, I'd been playing with the idea of naming my project "Colonia Colony". This idea came from wanting to take back something that has negatively impacted Puerto Rico, the colonial status and then creating a symbol out of the mixture of the Spanish and English versions of this word to reference the importance of these two languages on the island. This week I realized that I might not need to have both the Spanish and English versions of these words in the name of my project. I began exploring the name Colonya and continued to explore the letterforms and symbols I'd worked with previously. In addition, I have also continued to work on my illustration system: the characters, places, and maps that will be part of my project. I worked on applying the characters to different contexts to see how they would work on the website, social media, and printed formats of my project.
Another area I worked on was the website deliverable, I heavily edited, updated all illustrations, and refined the layout of the site.
How have you chosen to comp your prototype? What resources do you need?
For my website deliverable, I will be creating a prototype of the site using Adobe XD. For my game deliverable, I will be making a digital comp using Adobe Dimensions.
What did you learn during this process that was new or interesting?
Every week, I continue to learn about the design process as I keep taking my idea and pushing it in every direction. There are many times that I want to give up, and usually, with ideas that I come up with myself, I am able to just drop them. But this project has forced me to see my visions through and to keep working at it even when it stops making sense or feels harder and I think this is just a general phenomenon of the creative process.
