4. Thesis Diary

My project is about changing the narrative around Puerto Rican history and teaching our true stories in an empowering way. After last week’s feedback, I decided to revisit my name ideas. I reached the name of “Colonia Colony” for the project after doing research on ways in which marginalized communities have begun to reclaim terms of oppression in order to achieve a sense of “ownership”. The square symbol is a fusion of the Spanish and english differences in the word “colony”/”colonia”. The angles come from “-ia” and “-y” put together inside a rectangle that resembles a flag. In this way the logo tells the story of how these languages became important in Puerto Rican culture as well as references the status and flag of the island.
